Write Shorts

COMPARISON

The best AI for Instagram Reels, and what Reels rewards that TikTok does not

Sends, saves and audio carry more weight here. The tools follow from that, and so does the writing.

We make Write Shorts, which is listed in the scripts section below beside free alternatives. Nothing else here is ours.

A real video in, a real script out

Twenty-three seconds, start to finish. No edits, nothing sped up.

SIDE BY SIDE

What each one is actually for

Sorted by the job, because a caption tool and a script tool are not competing.

  • Instagram's own Reels tab

    Free

Shows which sounds are climbing right now.

More current than any third-party tracker. A sound will not hold anybody.

  • Later / Metricool

    Free tier + paid

    Scheduling, with trending audio flagged.

Only earns its place if posting timing is a real constraint for you.

  • CapCut

    Free tier + paid

    Editing, transitions and captions.

Instagram's built-in captions have closed most of the gap.

  • Submagic

    Paid

    Animated captions.

Presentation only, and the free built-in option is now decent.

  • ChatGPT / Claude

    Free tier + paid

Writes a script from a topic.

Writes for a stranger by default, which is the wrong register for your own followers.

  • Write Shorts

    $24.99/mo

Writes a script from a link to a video that already performed, in that video's structure, about your subject.

No free tier and no trial. Writes words, not video. Cannot promise anything performs.

Reels looks like TikTok and does not behave like it. Three differences change what is worth buying.

  • Sends and saves carry more weight. A Reel someone forwards to a friend travels further than one that merely holds attention. That changes what a good ending looks like.
  • Audio is a discovery route. A trending sound puts your Reel in front of people browsing that sound. There is no equivalent lever worth this much on the other platforms.
  • The audience is often people who already know you. Reels reaches your followers more readily, which rewards a recognisable voice over a cold-open hook.

Audio and trends — the part no TikTok list covers

Instagram's own Reels tab shows which sounds are climbing, free, and it is more current than any third-party tracker. Tools like Later and Metricool add scheduling and will flag trending audio, which matters only if you post often enough for timing to be a real constraint.

Editing and captions

CapCut covers most of it free. Submagic does animated captions well if your niche expects them. Instagram's built-in captions are free and have improved enough that paying for captions alone is hard to justify now.

Scripts

ChatGPT or Claude will write from a topic at no cost, and the output will be fluent and interchangeable with everyone else's.

Write Shorts — ours — starts from a Reel that already worked, keeps its structure and writes yours about your subject. $24.99 a month or $149 a year, no free tier, words not video. The reasoning is on the AI script generator page.

Why a TikTok script often lands flat as a Reel

TikTok rewards a cold open to a stranger. Reels frequently reaches people who already follow you, and a hard stop-scroll hook aimed at a stranger reads as shouting to someone who knows your voice.

The ending differs too. A TikTok close that earns a follow is doing its job. A Reel close that earns a send is doing more, because a send puts you in front of someone who has never seen you, with a friend's recommendation attached.

So the same idea usually wants a softer opening and a sharper ending here. That is a rebuild, not a repost — the difference is set out in content repurposing, and the Instagram-specific hook shapes are in hooks for Reels.

THREE STEPS

Link in. Script out. About a minute.

  1. 01

    Paste the video

Any TikTok, Reel or Short that's working in your niche, up to three minutes long. No topic to type — you pasted from your own feed, so the subject is already right.

  2. 02

    It pulls the video apart

What held people, where the turn lands, what she left out. Then your version writes itself out in front of you — same shape, your subject, hook to close.

  3. 03

    Copy it and film

One tap. It's in your notes. Go shoot.

QUESTIONS

What Reels creators ask

  • CapCut for editing, Instagram's own captions and audio tab, and ChatGPT or Claude for topic-based scripts. That covers most of it.

  • They still help discovery. They do not hold anyone past the first few seconds — the script does that.

  • You can. It tends to underperform on one of them, because the opening and the ending want to be different. Rebuilding takes a few minutes.
