The short version
You type a topic. I send it, along with the answers you gave in the quiz, to an AI company called Anthropic, and they send back a script. I keep the script and what it cost me to make. That’s the whole thing. The rest of this page is detail about it.
What I store
- Your quiz answers.All 22 of them. They become your profile, and your profile is sent with every script you generate — that’s the point of the quiz.
- Every topic you type, in full.
- Every script that comes back, in full.
- What each one cost— token counts and a number in dollars. It’s how I know whether the business works.
- When you copy a script, and whether you thumbs-up or thumbs-down it. The fact that you copied, not what you did afterwards.
- A random ID for your browser. Not your name — a string like
a-m2x9k4-8fjq2p, created on your first visit so one visit can be told from another. - Your email address, if you give me one. Only if you do.
I don’t ask for your name unless you volunteer one on the last quiz screen, and it’s skippable. There are no passwords, because there are no accounts yet. I don’t buy data about you and I don’t sell yours.
Where it goes
Anthropic — this is the one that matters.Your topic and your quiz answers leave this product and go to Anthropic’s servers. That isn’t a side effect, it isthe product — their Claude models are what write the script, and there’s no version of this that works without sending them your words. Every time you press the button, that means: the topic you typed, your niche, your audience, the three words for how you sound, the line you wrote in your own words, anything you said you won’t say on camera, and the length and pace you picked. If you wouldn’t want a US company to have it, don’t type it.
Supabase hosts the database everything above lives in.
PostHogcounts how many people start the quiz and how many finish, and which screen loses people. It’s counting, not reading — it doesn’t receive your scripts or your topics, and screen recording is switched off. Their servers are in the United States, and like any web tool they see your IP address when a page loads — they use it to work out roughly which country you are in, and nothing else.
Vercel serves the website. Like every web host its servers see your IP address and which pages you asked for, and keep that in logs for a while. I also read the country your IP is in, and store that country — never the address.
One exception, and it is about stopping abuse rather than about you: when you generate a script I store a scrambled one-way version of your IP address so I can count how many scripts came from one place in the last minute and the last day. It cannot be turned back into your address, it is not linked to your name or your email, and it is deleted after a day. Without it, one person could run up my bill until the tool stopped working for everyone else.
What’s kept on your device
No advertising cookies. No tracking pixels. Nothing that follows you to other websites. There is no ad network involved in this product at all.
In your browser’s own storage: your part-finished quiz answers, so closing the tab halfway doesn’t cost you eighteen of them (cleared after 7 days); your finished profile, so you don’t retake the quiz every visit; that random browser ID; and the scripts currently on screen, so a refresh doesn’t wipe what you’re reading.
Worth knowing: clearing your site data deletes your profile from your own device, and you’ll have to take the quiz again. There’s no account to restore it from yet.
If you give me your email to get a free script, here is exactly what I’ll do with it — in the same words that appear on the screen where you gave it:
I’ll email you the odd script breakdown and what’s working right now. Unsubscribe from any of them.
I store the exact wording you were shown next to your address, so if you ever ask what you agreed to I can tell you rather than guess. I won’t sell it, rent it, or hand it to anyone except the company that sends the emails.
Every email has an unsubscribe link. One click, and your address goes on a suppression list so a later import can’t quietly re-add you to the thing you just left.
Deleting everything
Email support@writeshorts.com and ask. No reason needed, no explanation needed.
Your profile, quiz answers, scripts, topics and email address go. What survives is the cost and token count of scripts already generated, with your ID stripped so they’re no longer connected to you — those are my accounts and I need to know what the business spent. If you want that gone too, say so and it goes.
Within 30 days, and normally much sooner.
Your rights
If you’re in the UK or EU you can ask me to show you what I hold about you, correct it, delete it, or send it to you in a file you can take elsewhere. You can object to me emailing you, which is what the unsubscribe link does. Ask at support@writeshorts.com.
I store your quiz answers and generate scripts because that’s the service you asked for. I email you on the basis of legitimate interest, and you can end that at any time with one click. If you think I’ve handled this badly you can complain to your country’s data protection regulator — in the UK, the ICO.
Under-16s
This isn’t for children and I don’t ask anyone’s age. If you’re under 16 and you’ve given me your email, tell me and I’ll delete it.
When this changes
If I change this page I’ll change the date at the top. If the change is a big one and I have your email, I’ll email you about it.
